Lucky Bamboo
Lucky
Bamboo is native to Southeast Asia and Africa. It is called Lucky
Bamboo because of its ancient affiliation with the Eastern practice
of Feng Shui. Feng shui is the belief of bringing the natural elements
of earth, water, fire, wood and metal to balance in the environment.
Lucky Bamboo is believed to be a fitting example of the balance
between the elements of wood and water. The element of fire, which
would bring a positive flowing chi into the room, can be achieved
by tying a red ribbon around the stock of the bamboo.
Since Lucky bamboo grow as separate stalks, the number of Lucky
Bamboo stalk is significant in Feng Shui. Three, Five and six stalks
are used most frequently as three is for happiness, five is for
wealth, and six is fro health. The number four is never used because
the words “four” and “death” sound very
similar.
